Beyond attempting to rescue Western sympathizers and intelligence assets from the Taliban there is little that can be done for Afghanistan. In time the Taliban will wear out its welcome and the merry go-round will turn again.
The important thing is to turn our gaze to the real threat instead of being fixated on the Afghan debacle. China was the reason the War on Terror was being wound down. There was no sense picking a fight in a land wholly surrounded by Iran, Russia, China and Pakistan when every unit was urgently needed to face Beijing.
Afghanistan is for the moment, finished. The likely next flashpoint is Taiwan and possibly the Philippines. So far Joe has proved incapable of thinking any moves ahead. They got the jump on him in Afghanistan for sure. They’ll try and get the jump on him again.
