The bombing of al-Hayeh’s home showed Israel was expanding its campaign beyond just the group’s military commanders. Israel says it has killed dozens in Hamas’ military branch, though Hamas and the smaller group Islamic Jihad have only acknowledged 20 dead members.

Israel’s apparent focus is on:

1. the personal property and lives of identified enemy leadership figures.
2. the property of those perceived to be political allies of Hamas

By contrast, Hama’s targets are:

1. Israeli civilian morale and it’s economy by pinning down the population and forcing an exchange of interceptors for cheap rockets;
2. Mobilizing their Western sympathizers through a press operation.

There will be endless jabs but no haymakers. Since Biden must keep both sides in the equation to reach a negotiated peace it’s a formula for a protracted face-off. But in that long fight waiting for a referree’s decision what surprises may come? That’s the hidden risk in the situation.
