Democratic Rep. Jahana Hayes circulated a letter Thursday asking House Republican leadership to remove Greene from her appointment on the House Committee on Education and Labor. Hayes represents Connecticut’s 5th District, including Newtown, where the deadly mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School occurred in 2012.

Democratic Rep. Jimmy Gomez of California announced Thursday he would introduce a resolution to expel Greene from Congress that would require a two-thirds majority to pass.

Pelosi warns of ‘enemy’ within Congress and calls for greater security to protect members

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi calls for greater funding to be put towards security in Congress, saying there are members “who want to bring guns on the floor and have threatened violence”.

Some Republicans have loudly objected to having to pass through newly installed metal detectors before entering the House chamber, while Ms Pelosi has proposed fining lawmakers who bypass the devices.

Ms Pelosi did not say whom she meant by her reference to an “enemy” within the House, and a spokesperson provided no examples when asked.
