Nearly every politician now in office or who won reelection on the promise of a return to the “normal” old global world will fail in his pledge as it becomes clear that the pandemic and the new Cold War with China have changed things deeply.
The worst of the politicians will compound their dishonesty with fascism. The less bad and only stupid will double down on a transformative Woke agenda that will be unaffordable for now and for a long time to come. The 2021 Olympics like the 1936 are a bellwether of our troubled souls.
The lights must never go out,
The music must always play,
All the conventions conspire
To make this fort assume
The furniture of home;
Lest we should see where we are,
