Why else would people pay or be taxed at premium if not to get premium access? Bloomberg says not so fast: “Giving preferential status to those inoculated against the coronavirus is bad for inter-generational fairness, and medically risky.” You need more than a leg bracelet to get out of jail?
As vaccination campaigns proceed at different speeds around the world, all governments face the same ethical dilemma: how to deal with those who’ve completed their immunization program. The pressure to give back their full personal and social liberties, and to let them contribute in full to the economic recovery will be strong. But states would be unwise to create different classes of citizens.
Creating priority vaccine classes by occupation, social justice status, political prominence, nationality etc on top of differential mobility based on mask wearing, place of abode, covid test status, certificate of quanantine and so forth has already created “different classes of citizens” in jail. But jail is good for the common weal and if the inmates get out what will the jailors do then?
The trick is convincing the bureaucrats to move their discriminator algorithm to the vaccine passport. The Bloomberg editorial continues.
The evidence is promising — especially from those shots that use messenger-RNA (mRNA) technology — but we need more studies before loosening the distancing rules. Allowing potentially infectious individuals to roam around with a false sense of security might contribute to contagion.
Even if we do discover that vaccinated individuals cannot spread Covid-19, there are strong moral arguments against unfettered liberty.
Can’t have “unfettered liberty” can we now unless the price is right. The authorities will only give up their power to mask, quarantine and control entire populations if we can post an equivalent power over humanity through vaccine passports. The jailers want a bail bond to open the door.
